Welcome to our first attempt at blogging

Dear Diary,

I started my pet nanny adventures back in 1996. At first I called it Rogers Pet Care, after my last name. But then someone said “Who’s Roger?” Good point. Most of my clients were women and they did not want some guy named Roger coming into their homes. They felt comfortable with a woman.

Then I changed it to Channel Islands Pet Care because I lived in the Channel Islands beach area. But that name was very close to a local veterinarian’s office located in Port Hueneme. Before the internet, people would call information (411) to get the name of the vet in Oxnard. Operators would give out my phone number. I got so many calls from pet parents who wanted to know about their pet’s status after surgery, or how much it costs for vaccinations etc. My cell phone minutes were being eaten up taking calls for a vet’s office. Hummmm..what to do, what to do.

Then one day at a dog park I over heard a client of mine say, “You’ve got to meet my pet’s nanny!” to another dog owner. They said, “Oh, this is your pet’s nanny I’ve heard so much about!” Well, I was flattered to say the least. After all, it’s good to know your client’s are happy and saying nice things about you. But I was also struck by the phrase Your Pet’s Nanny. It described what I do perfectly. I am Your Pet’s Nanny. I do more than just put out fresh food and water for your pets. I love and care for them just as you would. I walk the dogs, pet the cats, feed the fish, water your plants, take out the trash, bring in the mail and newspapers.

That was back in the mid 1990’s. I started my business before pet sitting became an “industry.” I did it because I loved it. I was one of the pioneers of pet sitting. After 16 years, I have help now. I know I can’t do it all and be everywhere at all times. My pet sitters have pet CPR and first aid certificates and are bonded as well. We make sure your pet’s are well cared for while you’re away.

Thank you for letting us be Your Pet’s Nanny.
